A.B. Quintanilla's Ex on Why She’s Suing Him: "I Continue to Fight for What My Son Deserves”
A.B Quintanilla, brother of the late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla, continues to face legal issues for non-payments of child support. Recently, the musician failed to show up in court for his hearing, and his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his son Summer Clary is now speaking out.
“I’m unhappy that I came all the way [to court] and he can’t bother to show up,” Clary told local news KIII-TV 3News. “But I continue to fight for my son, for what he deserves.”
However, Quintanilla’s attorney William Dudley took responsibility for the 53-year-old’s absence in court. “Mr. Quintanilla knew nothing about the hearing today,” Dudley told reporters outside the courtroom. “It was something that I scheduled. It was not an evidentiary hearing. It would not have required his appearance to be here.”
Dudley assured that his client would be at his next court hearing—which is reportedly scheduled for August 16, according to The Caller Times—and that the case is a misunderstanding.
“[Quintanilla] has paid all the child support he’s supposed to pay,” the lawyer said. “And as soon as we know what that amount is, I have a feeling he’s going to write a cashier’s check for the full amount.”
Clary’s attorney, Karen Marvel, also spoke in defense of her client saying, “We’re just trying to make sure that my client gets her day in court and that Mr. Quintanilla lives up to the obligations. Everybody needs to pay child support and take care of their children. That’s the job, no matter who you are.”
Quintanilla was placed on the Top 10 Most Wanted list in Corpus Christi, Texas for the month of August. The former member of Selena y Los Dinos told Spanish-language magazine TVyNovelas, “I am the victim of a misunderstanding. Placing me among the top ten [Most Wanted] is totally unfair.”
