Blue Steel Strong! All the Crazy Things Derek Zoolander Is Doing to Get Us Pumped for Zoolander 2
THE WHOLE CAST STRUTTED THEIR STUFF AT THE FILM'S N.Y.C. PREMIERE
HE SPENT AN EPIC DAY WITH BARBIE IN L.A.
Life in plastic really is fantastic! The Zoolander 2 star, along with cameos by doll-size Hansel and Valentina (Penélope Cruz), joined Barbie for a day of lounging at the beach, working out at SoulCycle, a quick drink at Pressed Juicery and a selfie sesh at Runyon Canyon.
HE & KIEHL'S LAUNCHED A CENTER FOR PEOPLE WHO DON'T AGE GOOD
In collaboration with skincare company Kiehl's, Zoolander brought his passion for beauty to life by dreaming up a line of anti-aging products that'll keep users really, really ridiculously good looking – just like the man himself.
HE & HANSEL STOPPED BY SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE
Forget Fashion Week – the stars of Zoolander 2 made a surprise visit to SNL's Weekend Update to discuss politics. "As you know, they just held the Iowa couscous, which I skipped because I don't eat carbs," Zoolander said, before criticizing the presidential candidates and confusing Ted Cruz and Tom Cruise.
HE & HANSEL CHANNELED THE BEATLES
When in London, do as The Beatles do! The models visited Abbey Road to put their own creative spin on the band's iconic album cover while still managing to look really, really ridiculously good looking.
HE 'JOINED' THE REAL MADRID SOCCER CLUB
The star of the highly anticipated sequel was not only honored by the Real Madrid – days after its transfer ban was suspended – but was also gifted soccer gear, which we can totally see him rocking on any runway.
HE & CARA DELEVINGNE HAD A WALK-OFF IN PARIS
In true Zoolander form, the veteran model (played by Ben Stiller) challenged model-actress Cara Delevingne to a walk-off in Paris – which just so happened to lead to a super-romantic date that included champagne and pictures in front of the Eiffel Tower. "This girl Cara totally speaks to me. And then I speak back. And then she says something. Then I do," he wote on Instagram of their time together. "Then she says stuff again. So many words my head is spinning! I think I might be in love."
HE & HANSEL WERE HIRED BY VALENTINO
Now this is a foolproof way to garner attention! Valentino got a "Blue Steel"-themed window when Zoolander and fellow model Hansel McDonald (a.k.a. Owen Wilson) channeled store mannequins at the fashion house's Rome, Italy, storefront over the weekend. The decision to do so rightfully caused swarms of fans to surround the windows. "When Mr. Valentino hired me to model in his store window, I told him: 'be prepared to sell a million more butterfly baskets!'" Zoolander wrote on Instagram.
HE CONTINUED TO INSPIRE TOP MODELS WITH 'BLUE STEEL'
Are you surprised? More than a decade before duck faces became synonymous with selfies, Zoolander's trademark "Blue Steel" face reigned supreme – and has remained popular, especially among Hollywood's elite, which includes Justin Bieber and Heidi Klum. "It's hard for me to not do it when somebody wants to take a picture with me," Ben Stiller, Zoolander's IRL counterpart, told Vogue. "I just go into it, like a trained dog."
HE LANDED IN FEBRUARY'S VOGUE WITH PENéLOPE CRUZ
Dreams do come true! The Zoolander 2 costars shared the fashion mag's highly coveted cover, and inside, Zoolander joined top models Gigi Hadid, Jourdan Dunn and Joan Smalls. "That look came out of me in the mirror at home, when I brush my hair or whatever," Stiller told Vogue about finding his character's facial expression. "I guess with the selfie culture, it's just a natural extension. Did I have any idea that it would live on? No."
HE & HANSEL HIT PARIS FASHION WEEK
It's one thing to attend Paris Fashion Week, but it's an entirely different thing when it means walking in a fashion show – which is exactly what Zoolander and Hansel did for Valentino in 2015 to kick off their Zoolander 2 promo tour.
