Zoë Saldana Defends Former Crossroads Costar Britney Spears
'I have a huge amount of respect for Britney Spears,' Saldana shared
Britney Spears‘s first – and only – major foray into cinema, Crossroads, hit theaters over 12 years ago, revealing the troubles of being “not a girl, not yet a woman.”
Relatively unknown in 2002, Spears’s costar Zoë Saldana is now headlining film franchises, but fans still want to know about her time hanging out with Spears.
Saldana, 36, recently stopped by Watch What Happens Live to talk about her kick-butt role in Guardians of the Galaxy, and also fielded phone questions. One of the callers asked the Avatar actress about her Crossroads experience, and Saldana had nothing but nice things to say about Spears.
“I have a huge amount of respect for Britney Spears,” Saldana said. “I’ve always said this, and I will always continue to say it: She was the one big, big celebrity that I met when I was starting to work in Hollywood who literally was humble, and whatever was going on in her mind there in her world, it was never about hating her neighbor.”
Saldana went on to defend the current Vegas performer from critics who say that Spears lacks singing talent without the help of Auto-Tune.
“Well, that’s mean because I’m pretty sure that 80 percent of our musical artists would be mortified if they were caught singing without their own Auto-Tune,” Saldana continued.
The actress’s kind words must’ve found their way back to the pop star, because shortly after Saldana’s interview, Spears posted a throwback photo of the Crossroads cast cruising together on her Instagram.
Along with the picture, which also features current Orange Is the New Black actress Taryn Manning, Spears posted the message “@ZoeSaldana is truly the sweetest. Nothing but great memories of working with her.”
