Surprise! Zoë Saldana is married.

The Guardians of the Galaxy actress, 35, and Italian artist Marco Perego wed earlier this summer in a small ceremony in front of family and friends, a source close to the couple confirms to PEOPLE. “They are very happy,” the source said.

The couple first went public with their relationship in May at the Star Trek Into Darkness premiere.

Saldana’s rep had no comment.

In May, the couple – who were said to be friends before their romance kicked into gear – were spotted kissing at Saldana’s Star Trek Into Darkness premiere. Earlier this month, they were photographed wearing wedding rings in London, E! reports, leading to speculation they tied the knot.

Saldana had previously been engaged to Keith Britton, the CEO of My Fashion Database. They split in 2011, after being together for 11 years.

A former promising soccer player before an injury ended his career, Perego, a painter, came to the U.S. and washed dishes for a living until his art career quickly took off. He earned the nickname “Pirate Perego” for his Johnny Depp-inspired long hair and goatee, reports the New York Observer.
