He speaks!

Zayn Malik has kept a relatively low profile since leaving One Direction, but it seems like he’s ready to reengage with his fans.

Following his appearance Friday at the Asian Awards in London, Malik, 22, has Tweeted for the first time since denying the cheating allegations that were the catalyst that eventually led him to quitting the band entirely.

“Wanna say thanks to everyone that’s been there for me over the last few weeks,” he wrote, following a couple of retweets from his time spent at the Asian Awards. “Love you all.. you know who you are x.”

In another Tweet, he jokingly cleared up that the “x” was indeed a kiss and not a “mystery.”

As you might imagine, the replies to his Tweets are wild, ranging from, “I F—ING LOVE YOU DO YOU UNDERSTAND?” to, “I miss you so much but I’m so glad you’re happy and healthy.” Malik’s Tweets even prompted a worldwide trend: “#ZaynWeveMissedYou.”

At the Asian Awards – where he was sporting a newly shaved head – Malik accepted the award for outstanding contribution to music. “I’d like to thank my mum and dad for making me Asian,” he said, prompting laughter from the audience. “I’d also like to take this moment to thank four of the best guys I’ve ever met. Everything I’ve done with them will stay with me for the rest of my life.”

For the record, Malik’s name on Twitter still reads “zaynmalik1D,” and Louis Tomlinson‘s Twitter bio still reads “1/5 of One Direction,” so, prepare yourself for the worldwide meltdowns that will ensue when those social media milestones eventually unfold.
