It’s not a pirate’s life for Zac Efron – at least not yet.

Despite reports to the contrary, the High School Musical 3: Senior Year star says he has no confirmed plans to follow Orlando Bloom as the young knave in Johnny Depp‘s shadow in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

“Honestly, at this time it’s just a rumor,” Efron told Ryan Seacrest on the American Idol host’s radio show on Wednesday. “I wish I was going to be in Pirates of the Caribbean 4, so hopefully that will happen for me.”

One thing Efron wouldn’t discuss with Seacrest is his ongoing romance with HSM co-star Vanessa Hudgens.

“Dude, honestly, I don’t talk about it,” Efron said. “It’s just easier.”
