Last week, YouTube star couple Sam and Nia were on top of the world with their surprise pregnancy announcement. Three days later they were back, this time with terrible news: Nia had suffered a miscarriage.
“We were just so overjoyed, and then it just – bam. It just hit us like a bomb,” Nia said. “The hardest part is just knowing that it’s really gone. There’s no question.”
Sitting in bed beside her husband, Nia cried as she addressed viewers. “Those of you who have experienced miscarriage before, I can now, I can relate now,” she said. “I have felt my womb empty out. I never, ever, ever knew women felt that way.”
Saturday’s vlog stood in stark contrast from the one the couple posted Wednesday, when Sam surprised Nia by telling her she was pregnant.
The father of two had raced to the bathroom to use an overnight urine sample of Nia’s to complete a pregnancy test and announce the results to his unsuspecting wife. At first Nia didn’t believe him, but then she came around and did a second pregnancy test to be sure. That video garnered more than 10 million views.
Now consumed with grief, the couple tapped into their faith.
The Bible says to weep with those who weep and mourn with those who mourn, and I am mourning with those of you who are feeling this,” said Nia.
Sam expressed great sadness but also gratitude for his current blessings.
“Mourning together like this has made us stronger and it’s made me appreciate my children more,” he said.
Sam also said that in time they’ll try to have another baby.
“We’re obviously going to continue to try to grow our family. It’s not going to stop here.”
Sam and Nia are high school sweethearts, according to their Facebook page. They vlog daily about their adventures at 5 p.m. CT but skipped a show on Saturday and posted their 4-minute announcement, Our baby had a heartbeat, instead.
