The Houston Rockets center weds Ye Li, also a basketball player, in Shanghai
Houston Rockets’ star center Yao Ming married longtime girlfriend – and basketball player for the Chinese national women’s team – Ye Li at a posh hotel in his hometown of Shanghai on Monday, reports the Associated Press.
The ceremony and banquet for the 7’6″ Yao, who is 26, and the 6’2″ Ye, 25, and their 70 guests were held at the Shangri-La Hotel, as about 100 reporters were staked outside – despite the groom’s dispatch that he would not comment.
But, according to reports, the wedding couple did send out customary celebratory candy, as well as a disk containing studio wedding photos.
The pictures were taken last week against a backdrop of a scenic resort in eastern China. The pair had picked up their official marriage certificate last Friday.
The two reportedly met eight years ago.
The AP quotes the Titan sports sheet as saying the wedding couple will head toward Beijing on Tuesday to participate in festivities marking the one-year countdown to the launch of the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
While in the city, the honeymooners will host a dinner for members of China’s men’s and women’s basketball teams, according to the Oriental Morning Post.
