It will be season No. 8 for “The X-Files” on Fox, series creator Chris Carter confirmed Tuesday. Much media and viewer attention was focused on the Sunday night sci-fi series and whether or not it would return. Now it will, and a deal to have the show’s star David Duchovny return for six to 11 additional episodes is still being negotiated, says the Hollywood Reporter. (Given the circumstance of Duchovny’s possible departure, an open-ended season finale will revolve around the capture of his character, FBI agent Fox Mulder.) Costar Gillian Anderson and Carter are signed for the full season. Final word on Duchovny is expected on Thursday, when Fox announces its fall lineup.
