WWF Switches Stations

The World Wrestling Federation is free to switch cable networks come September — from USA to the newly merged Viacom-CBS dominion, a judge has ruled. USA had hoped for a legal decision that would uphold its position that it shouldn’t have to match or improve upon other offers for its top-rated WWF programming, but Chancellor William Chandler of Delaware’s state Chancery Court tossed out USA’s suit. In turn, Chandler’s decision is being viewed as a great benefit to Viacom’s TNN, which will be picking up the cable rights to the hot wrestling property, reports the Hollywood Reporter. The WWF also now has a foot in the door at Viacom, which will probably mean wrestling programs can be expected on CBS, MTV and other channels in the company fold.
