Eduardo Gory Guerrero, a popular World Wrestling Entertainment star, was found dead in his Minneapolis hotel room on Sunday, the same day he was scheduled to appear in a WWE show. He was 38.
After failing to respond to a wakeup call, Guerrero was found in his room by his nephew, fellow WWE wrestler Chavo Guerrero, and Minneapolis Marriott City Center hotel security, authorities tell the Associated Press.
There were no apparent signs of foul play, say police. An autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.
Guerrero, a featured star on the UPN series WWE Smackdown!, was married and had three children.
“This is a huge loss,” said WWE chairman Vince McMahon. “Eddie was a wonderful, fun-loving human being. Eddie was a consummate performer.”
Last year, UPN aired a special on his life, Cheating Death, Stealing Life: The Eddie Guerrero Story. The program chronicled Guerrero’s childhood and his struggle with drug addiction that almost cost him his job, family and life. His nephew, however, told AP that his uncle had been clean and sober for four years.
