Kelly Rowland's peach-and-sequins minidress looks more little-girl-lost than sophisticated singer – and it clashes terribly with her red-streaked locks. Though Rowland is a Grammy winner (for best rap/sung collaboration for her duet with Nelly, "Dilemma"), her look is a snapshot of fashion confusion.
Though their tribute to their late friend and former TLC member Lisa "Left Eye" Lopes is a sweet show of solidarity, unfortunately T-Boz (left) and Chilli's LSO-designed outfits (a leather-and-satin bustier and barely-there leather vest, respectively) just aren't flattering.
SLASH & BURN
Guns N' Roses guitarist Slash left behind the ripped jeans-and-T-shirt rocker look, but his attempt at sophistication – a midnight-blue velvet suit – just doesn't, well, suit him. The chapeau-wearing axeman, with wife Perla, looks like he's playing dress-up.
There's no missing Rod Stewart in his loud, pinstriped-crazy suit, complete with white vest. The rooster-tressed rocker adds to his over-the-top ensemble with a puzzling accessory – a puppy. What's up with that?
Paul Shaffer's befuddled pose seems to say it all. We're equally confused as to why the Late Show with David Letterman bandleader chose to deck himself out in a purple lounge-lizard velvet duster coat and matching suit with silky shirt. The diminutive musician looks like he's being swallowed up by Barney.
ALL THAT GLITTERS
Best dance recording nominee (for "Love at First Sight") Kylie Minogue seems to be channeling Carmen Miranda in her Givenchy couture dress, with its gold-studded bodice and green chiffon ruffled train. Unfortunately, her attempt at a spicy look is too overwhelming for the petite singer, who looks lost in the big ensemble.
Though she pulls off her shorn hair beautifully, India.Arie's outfit leaves something to be desired. Her stark white mock turtleneck dress (designed by her mom) with funky wristbands and a frayed leather purse is a washout. But Arie is still a winner – for best RampB album (for Voyage to India) and best urban alternative performance for "Little Things."
BARING IT ALL
It looks like Foxy Brown, a nominee for best female rap solo performance for "Na Na Be Like," forgot to get fully dressed for the Grammys. The rap star managed to get an aquamarine-colored bra on, as well as a white fur coat, but the silky bit of fabric she's wearing isn't what we would call a dress.
STUCK IN THE PAST
Eve looks more disco diva than hip-hop star in her tacky 1970s-inspired gold lame-and-pleather minidress with strands for sleeves. An equally cheesy gold handbag and flashy stilettos add insult to injury.
Best new artist nominee Avril Lavigne helped design her tuxedo jacket, which just proves that you should stick with what you know. Completing her scary ensemble is a bow tie and skull-and-crossbones belt. Why Avril, why?
