C.D. Atkins, 86, an inventor who helped perfect frozen citrus concentrate — still the chief method by which Americans drink orange juice — died Saturday in Florida. He and a research partner formed the Florida Citrus Commission in 1942 so that o.j. could be sent to American troops fighting overseas . . . Ellery J. Chun, 91, who in 1931 fashioned the original “Aloha” brand Hawaiian shirt (the prototype for all Hawaiian shirts to come), died in Honolulu on May 16, his widow Mildred has announced. His shirts were not only seen on surfers, but on such cultural icons as Frank Sinatra, Montgomery Clift and Bing Crosby. Aloha, Ellery.
