Little Girl's Wonder Woman Lunch Box Banned from School Because It Depicts a 'Violent Character'

The school says it doesn't support characters who use violence to solve problems

She’s the strongest woman alive, but she can’t break through a school’s dress code.

According to Uproxx, a girl named Laura was sent home with a note about her Wonder Woman lunch box.

The letter informs Laura’s parents that the girl is no longer allowed to bring in the lunch box because it violates the school’s policy regarding violent images.

“The dress code we have established requests that the children not bring violent images into the building in any fashion – on their clothing (including shoes and socks), backpacks and lunch boxes,” reads the letter. “We have defined ‘violent characters’ as those who solve problems using violence. Superheroes certainly fall into that category.”

Both the letter and photos of the banned lunch box were posted on Imgur and are now spreading across the web, where even Wonder Woman actress Lynda Carter is weighing in.

While superheroes can be depicted as violent, the images of Wonder Woman that appear on the lunch box show her alone, smiling and holding the Lasso of Truth. These are pictures many would associate with confidence, strength and independence. The Mary Sue points out that the school’s choice to prohibit all superhero images could prevent children from learning valuable lessons.

“[Superheroes] often have other skills that make them so ‘super’ and are worth looking up to (Batman’s power of deduction, Superman’s belief in humanity, Wonder Woman’s love of peace),” the site wrote in a post about the letter.
