And we're counting that fan dressed as a bald eagle as a highlight

The U.S. Women’s Soccer team gave a thrillingly dominant performance against Japan on Sunday, turning in a 5-2 victory so riveting, even Beyoncéamong many other celebrities – took notice.

And while the team probably appreciated the support, it’s not like they needed it. Game hero Carli Lloyd scored her first of three goals in the third minute of the game

and then her second, just over two minutes later.

That was hardly Lloyd’s highlight, though – that would be this insane long-range goal from the middle of the field. (Japan goalkeeper Ayumi Kaihori: We know that feel.)

By the end of the game, we were starting to feel sorry for Japan. Watch the team’s exasperated skyward glances after this late goal by Tobin Heath.

But the real unsung hero of the game? The fan dressed up as a bald eagle, triumphantly flapping and air-punching the team to victory.

God bless America.
