Punxsutawney Phil, the weather-forecasting Pennsylvania groundhog, did not see his shadow this morning, thereby predicting an early spring. News media gathered in Punxsutawney’s main square to tape spots with the animal. Other visitors signed Phil’s visitor’s book outside a mock groundhog burrow in the local library. Over the years, various Phils have predicted six more weeks of winter 100 times in 112 appearances, and his forecast has been correct about four times in 10 — not quite Accu-Weather, but not bad for a rodent.
