Will Smith was named Entertainer of the Year at the 30th annual NAACP Image Awards over the weekend in Pasadena CA. The star-studded evening (to be broadcast March 4 on Fox) was hosted by the 90-year-old civil rights organization, which presents the awards to honor outstanding achievements and positive portrayals by blacks in movies, TV, music and literature. Retired basketball superstar Michael Jordan was given the Jackie Robinson Sports Award; opera singer Kathleen Battle and blues legend B.B. King each received the Hall of Fame Award; hip-hop singer Lauryn Hill was given the Presidential Award. “How Stella Got Her Groove Back” won three honors, including outstanding motion picture.
