Maggie Gyllenhaal stars in Sundance TV’s new miniseries, The Honorable Woman, but the 36-year-old actress says she still finds time to learn harmonies with her husband, actor Peter Sarsgaard, and loves to hear her two-year-old daughter say “I love you,” when she chatted with PEOPLE this week…

Last time I sang out loud
I’m not a great singer, but I’m okay. My husband [actor Peter Sarsgaard, 43] plays guitar and we’ve been learning these bluegrass harmonies together. It’s been one of the most fun things I’ve been doing lately.

Last DIY
Hmmm, I don’t know. It’s ridiculous that I don’t know how to change a car tire. I think I’m going to repierce my ears when my daughter [Ramona, 7] gets hers done. But that is not DIY.

Last thing I borrowed
At the moment we’re borrowing my mom’s 10-year-old Prius, which my husband is psyched about because he is very committed to environmentalism. He really wants to get a totally electric car, but we’re waiting for a different model. Well, he is. I’m doing what he says.

Last time I was nervous
Just recently I was stuck on the subway for 40 minutes during rush hour, and they turned the air-conditioning off. I was sitting next to this woman and I just started talking to her because I was irrationally nervous.
