Whoopi Goldberg to Sing & Skate on Broadway
The View co-host will star in Tony-nominated Xanadu
Whoopi Goldberg will return to the Broadway stage – on roller skates – when she joins the cast of the musical Xanadu on July 29, she announced on The View on Monday.
Goldberg, 52, will play the role of Caliope, one of the show’s evil sisters, during a six-week stint in the Tony-nominated roller-skating musical.
Goldberg, who hosted this year’s Tony Awards, has been on Broadway before: in her own one-woman show as well as in revivals of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.
Before lacing up her skates, Goldberg revisited another favorite childhood pastime by taking to the field at Yankee Stadium on Sunday.
“Softball was something that I grew up playing,” Goldberg told PEOPLE at the Taco Bell All-star Legends and Celebrity Softball Game in New York. “That’s all we could do as girls in my day, so it’s great to be out here and get to relive my childhood.”
