Who you gonna call when you need a ride this Independence Day weekend? For some lucky riders across America, the answer actually is Ghostbusters !
Sony Pictures is teaming up with the ride-sharing service Lyft to offer free rides in replicas of the famous ambulance/hearse the Ghostbusters drive in the original films. The car, dubbed the Ecto-1, will pick up select passengers over the weekend in five major cities: New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington D.C. and Boston.
PEOPLE went along for a ride in the real Ecto-1 used in the new Ghostbusters film, and I got the privilege of taking a ride in the real Ecto-1 used in the new Ghostbusters film (and let s just say I felt like Melissa McCarthy with all the heads we turned on the street). My favorite parts of the 1984 Cadillac Hearse were the soft seats, the sound system and Victor the driver who sported a Ghostbuster s suit that really set the scene.
Take a tour of the original Ecto-1 from the new Ghostbusters film as PEOPLE staffers go Ghost Mode and cruise around downtown Manhattan.
The Lyft offer runs this Friday and Saturday from 10a.m. to 8p.m. All riders have to do is request a Lyft and switch into Ghost Mode on the app.
Ghost Mode passengers also have a chance to win cool prizes and snack on Key Lime Slime Twinkies and Hi-C Ecto-Coolers during the ride. One lucky rider in Los Angeles even has a chance to win two tickets to the Ghostbusters Premiere in L.A. on July 9.
Lyft is really all about having a memorable experience in the car, Paige______ from Lyft tells PEOPLE. It s really just to get people s attention, get people asking, allow them to have fun, smile and improve their day.
