Whitney Houston's Body Arrives at Newark Funeral Home: Report

The singer's funeral will take place on Saturday in Newark, N.J., her rep confirms

Confirming reports she would be laid to rest in the city where she first sang, the body of Whitney Houston arrived in Newark, N.J., just before midnight on Monday.

The late singer’s body was flown from Los Angeles via a plane owned by actor-producer Tyler Perry, Reuters reports.

Security was tight at the Teterboro, N.J., airport, where a gold hearse left the airport heading to the Whigham Funeral Home in Newark. About 50 fans mourning the death of 48-year-old Houston, who was found in the bathtub of her Beverly Hilton suite on Saturday, sung along to some of her greatest hits and lit candles in her memory.

Houston’s invitation-only funeral will take place Saturday at noon at the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, N.J., her rep tells PEOPLE.

According to an ABC report, daughter Bobbi Kristina, who is recovering from an emotional breakdown since her mother’s death, has also arrived in New Jersey, as have Houston’s bodyguard and brother-in-law Ray Watson.

Houston was born in Newark, where she began singing in church as a child in the choir.
