WEEK IN REVIEW: New Brides in Season

JUNE BRIDES: Ed Burns, 35, married his longtime on-again, off-again companion, supermodel Christy Turlington, 34, Saturday in San Francisco in a Roman Catholic ceremony, where the bride wore a Galliano gown. Guests included Sting and Vin Diesel, while U2 singer Bono gave the bride away and reportedly sang at the ceremony. Also, “American Beauty” director Sam Mendes, 37, married “Titanic” star Kate Winslet, 27, “in late May in a very small ceremony whilst on holiday in the West Indies,” said their publicist. “Present were Kate Winslet’s (2-1/2-year-old) daughter, Mia, and three close friends.”

MARTHA MESS: ImClone Systems founder Sam Waksal, 55 — whose insider-trading scandal also ensnared his friend Martha Stewart — was sentenced this week to seven years and three months in prison and ordered to pay nearly $4.3 million in fines and back taxes, the Associated Press reported. The stiff sentence is being seen as a bad omen for Stewart, 61, who last week was indicted on charges stemming from her December 2001 sale of ImClone shares, one day before the FDA declined to approve of one of the biotech company’s new cancer drugs.

SANTA SOPRANO: “The Sopranos” star James Gandolfini, 41, whose recent clash with HBO resulted in a healthy pay hike, handed out five-figure personal checks — totaling $500,000 — to Edie Falco, Lorraine Bracco, Michael Imperioli, Dominic Chianese, Tony Sirico and about seven others, according to the Hollywood Reporter. It reportedly was his way of acknowledging that the show’s success hinges on the strength of its ensemble cast.

NUDE SURVIVORS: Swimsuit model Jenna Morasca, 21, who won the $1 million prize last month on CBS’s “Survivor: The Amazon,” will be dropping her swimsuit for the August issue of Playboy, that magazine confirmed. And she won’t be alone: Fellow contestant Heidi Strobel, 24, a physical education teacher from Buffalo, Mo., also will pose. Morasca stands to earn at least another $1 million — depending on how well the issue sells — for doing the cover feature, the New York Post reported.

‘HULK’ HURT: An unfinished, bootleg version of the eagerly anticipated $150 million summer movie “The Hulk” made its way onto the Internet last weekend — some two weeks before the film’s scheduled June 20 premiere — sending shockwaves throughout the corridors of its studio, Universal, the Los Angeles Times reported. The film then received an early critical drubbing by the Ain’t It Cool News movie gossip site, but the studio, insisting the finished film is terrific, is looking into the piracy issue.
