BABY FACES: Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck became first-time parents with the birth of their daughter in Los Angeles, their reps confirmed to PEOPLE. Affleck’s publicist, Ken Sunshine, and Garner’s spokeswoman, Nicole King, said the child was born at 6:26 p.m. ET Thursday. “Mother, father and baby are doing great,” the reps said in a statement. … In other maternity news, Rod Stewart’s fiancee, former model Penny Lancaster, gave birth to a 7 lbs. 7 oz. baby boy, born at 2:24 a.m. Sunday in London. “Both Penny and our baby son are gorgeous, healthy and doing well,” said Stewart, who was present for, and participated in, the natural birth. … Wayne’s World actress Tia Carrere has given birth to her first child, a baby girl, Biancha, born in Los Angeles in September, her publicist announced this week. Carrere, 38, is married to British photojournalist Simon Wakelin.
FEUD FINISHED: Oprah Winfrey and David Letterman kissed and made up Thursday night on his CBS Late Show. “Even my mother said tonight she may switch over from Leno,” Letterman said in the great buildup before Winfrey walked out on his stage. He called Oprah “the most beloved woman in America – despite the fact she gave us Dr. Phil.” “Could you tell me please what has transpired?” Oprah asked Dave, who had pointed out that since appearing on his old NBC show 16 years ago – “16 and a half,” Oprah interjected – she has refused to come back. Insisted Winfrey: “I have never for a moment had a feud with you.”
NICK’S NEWS: Nick Lachey, whose split from Jessica Simpson was announced last week, is about to go back to work – as another newlywed. The actor-singer is working on a new sitcom for the WB network in which he’d play a baseball star involved in a new marriage, according to the Hollywood Reporter. There’s no title yet for the show, which comes from Danny Jacobson, the co-creator and executive producer of NBC’s relationship comedy Mad About You. Jacobson tells the trade paper that the show will be “a romantic comedy under the microscope.” Lachey previously did several guest spots on the WB show Charmed.
MANHATTAN FIRED: Donald Trump’s next season of The Apprentice will shift its New York-based boardroom to Hollywood, NBC announced – despite a slippage in the ratings for the reality show and the one-shot disappointment of Martha Stewart’s spinoff this season. The current fourth installment of the business show will wrap up Dec. 15 with a two-hour finale live from Manhattan’s Lincoln Center. Meanwhile, Apprentice 5 is already set to debut midseason early next year. … In other reality news, The Simple Life – canceled by FOX last month and seemingly doomed by Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie’s ongoing feud – will now come back on a different network. A fourth season, titled The Simple Life: Till Death Do Us Part, will air on E! next spring, the cable network announced.
STORK WATCH: White Stripes frontman Jack White, 30, and his wife, model Karen Elson, are expecting a child this spring. This will be the couple’s first child together. Last June, the couple exchanged vows in June in the Brazilian city of Manaus with a small group of close friends in attendance, including Stripes manager Ian Montone as best man and Stripes drummer Meg White as maid of honor. … Also, Law & Order: SVU actress Mariska Hargitay and husband Peter Hermann are expecting their first child together, her publicist confirmed to Reuters. Hargitay, 41, who plays NYPD Det. Olivia Benson on the NBC crime franchise, met Hermann, 38, on the show, where he has a recurring role. The couple wed in Santa Barbara, Calif. in August 2004 in front of 200 guests.
