CRUISE CONTROL: Tom Cruise and Penelope Cruz, who on March 25 confirmed to PEOPLE that their relationship had ended, were spotted together again on April 4 — this time in Berlin, where he was scouting locations for a third “Mission: Impossible” film. Is a reconciliation in the works? “They’re not back together,” said Cruise’s spokeswoman, his sister Lee Anne DeVette. “Since he was in Germany and she had a couple of days off, she flew over to say hi. They hadn’t seen each other since January.” She added: “They’re good friends, and they’ll be seeing a lot of each other. People should get used to it.”

WHITNEY VIGIL: Some 1,500 people packed Harlem’s Abyssinian Baptist Church as part of a prayer vigil for troubled singer Whitney Houston organized by her mother, Cissy Houston, PEOPLE reported. Earlier this month, the Grammy winner, 40, checked into an undisclosed drug-rehab center for what was to have been a month of treatment. After five days, however, Houston checked herself out, with the rep saying that this was part of the ongoing treatment. “Lord, you know where Whitney is tonight,” the Rev. Al Sharpton told the crowd in Harlem. “I ask you to touch her.”

RYAN’S RUMORS: Reps for the “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest brushed off a report in the New York Post’s Page Six column that he quietly got engaged to his girlfriend, Shanna Walls. While the Post said Seacrest, 29, wants to keep it under wraps because he doesn’t want to dampen his popularity with young girls, his rep told the paper, “They are just dating.”

‘ALIAS’ KEPT: Jennifer Garner says her ABC series “Alias” will be back. The star, 31, on the promotional trail of her new movie, “13 Going on 30,” told the Web site Zap2it.com, “I don’t know if it’s been announced, but I’ll be back. We hired new writers, we hired new cast members, so it’s happening.” But ABC spokespeople said, “We’ve not gotten word on that show yet.”

LOPEZ’S LUCK: At 7:40 p.m. last Saturday night, Jennifer’s mom, Guadalupe Lopez, placed a $3 bet on a “Wheel of Fortune” slot machine at the Borgata hotel and casino in Atlantic City — and won a jackpot worth a cool $2.4 million, an insider told PEOPLE.com. Guadalupe immediately tried to reach her daughter to share the good news, but Jenny from the Block wasn’t answering her phone; she was in Los Angeles attending Nickelodeon’s 17th annual Kids Choice Awards. Alas, her fortune wasn’t as good as her mom’s: She lost out to Hilary Duff as favorite female singer.
