Celebrity WEEK IN REVIEW: Britney Pops the Question Plus: Ashley says Mary-Kate was "struggling," Lindsay Lohan's dad arrested again and more By People Staff Published on July 2, 2004 01:00 PM Share Tweet Pin Email BRITNEY ENGAGED: Pop princess Britney Spears, 22, confessed to PEOPLE that she asked new fiancé Kevin Federline to marry her – and that at first, her Sadie Hawkins stunt didn’t work. “I said no,” the 26-year-old Federline told the magazine. But moments later he turned the tables and asked the singer for her hand. The June engagement capped a whirlwind courtship that started in April at the Hollywood club Joseph’s, said Spears, who now wears a five-carat rock set on two slender, diamond-encrusted platinum bands. She also denied any pregnancy rumors. “(But) I definitely want to have some kids. I see myself with four or five. … We’re starting with a dog.” No wedding date has been announced. ASHLEY SPEAKS: Mary-Kate Olsen’s eating disorder was something she’d “been struggling with for quite a while” before her family stepped in and sent her to a clinic earlier this month, sister Ashley Olsen told PEOPLE. “She’s hanging in there,” she said of her twin. “She is taking the time she needs for herself.” The Olsens,18, plan on attending New York University this fall. Ashley offered thanks for the “really amazing” support she and her family have received from fans. “I think this is an issue the girl down the street can have,” she said. “It’s an issue a lot of people deal with.” PARENTAL PROBLEM: The father of teen star Lindsay Lohan wound up in more hot water this week when he was arrested for allegedly skipping out on a $3,800 tab at a pricey Long Island hotel. Michael Lohan says he had arranged to pay the bill with a credit card, but the charge was not processed, the Associated Press reported. Lohan was released on $250 bail, and is due in court Aug. 26. He also faces assault charges dating from a family party in May and from a confrontation with a sanitation worker whose truck was blocking his car, the AP notes. But the Mean Girls star, who turned 18 on July 2, did get one bit of good news: She’s been tapped as the new face for a youth-oriented line from handbag makers Dooney & Bourke. TRUMP LAUNCHES: Fresh off the success of TV’s The Apprentice, real estate mogul Donald Trump has a new media venture. The Donald plans to launch a glossy magazine called Trump World in September, noted Reuters. Editor and publisher Michael Jacobson described the magazine – which will cover real estate, celebrities, travel, arts, food and wine – as “The Robb Report meets Vanity Fair, meets Donald Trump.” DATE WANTED: Single mom Nicole Kidman says it’s hard to find a new relationship. “I’m hoping to meet someone and be happy with them,” she told British magazine Now. “But that’s not as easy as it sounds. I’m a 37-year-old woman with two children. Men aren’t beating a path to my door.” The Stepford Wives star has been single since splitting with rocker Lenny Kravitz earlier this year – and although she shares custody of Isabella, 11, and Connor, 9, with ex-husband Tom Cruise, she was quick to deny rumors of a reconciliation. “That whole part of my life is over and done with,” she says.
