Paris Hilton’s Club Paris opens its doors in Orlando. PEOPLE looks at this and other pop-culture festivities:

TUESDAY, DEC. 28: Denzel Washington may be turning the ‘ol 5-0, but the Oscar winner hasn’t lost his youthful charm. Just ask pal Debbie Allen: “He has this boyish quality. He always seems to be up to something, even when he’s not.” Washington is sure to commemorate his mid-century mark with his tight-knit family – wife Pauletta, son John David, 20, daughter Katia, 17, and twins Olivia and Malcolm, 13.

FRIDAY, DEC. 31: For the first time in 32 years, Dick Clark won’t usher in the New Year on national television. As Clark continues to recover from a Dec. 6 stroke in a Burbank, Calif., hospital, Regis Philbin is stepping in to fill his considerable shoes as the host of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve 2005 on ABC. Reege will hold court in New York City’s Times Square, while Ashlee Simpson will help out with the West Coast portion of the show. No word on whether she plans to sing live or otherwise.

Meanwhile, NBC will broadcast its first-ever New Year’s Eve prime-time special, NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly. The former TRL host’s show (aimed at upping the youth quotient) will air live from New York City’s Rockefeller Center and will feature Avril Lavigne, Maroon 5 and Duran Duran. The show will air from 10 to 11 p.m. EST.

As one of the most experienced party girls around, who better to open her own club than Paris Hilton? Though the hotel heiress won’t be on hand for the New Year’s Eve opening of her Club Paris (she’ll reportedly be partying in South Beach), the Orlando branch will still open its doors. The club is 16,000-sq.-ft. and includes state-of-the-art DJ booths, a martini-and-cigar lounge (with a VIP section, natch) and a private area for Hilton including sofas in her fave color, pink. Rumor has it Hilton will earn a seven-figure bonus for lending her name to the clubs, which will later roll out in Las Vegas, New York City, Miami Beach, London and – where else? – Paris.
