What: Mariah Carey is an honoree at the gala, which boasts performances by John Mayer
When: Sept. 20, the Tent at Lincoln Center in New York
Highlights: Recognized for her contributions to music education, Carey could probably teach a seminar called Career Resurrection 101. And Mimi will be in good company: Bill and Hillary Clintonwill also be recognized at the 10th anniversary gala for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation. The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford Premiere

When: Sept. 18, Ziegfeld Theater
Highlights: He’s already picked up an award at the Venice Film Festival for his low-key performance in the Western. And advance buzz has been positive. So, expect Pitt (and Angelina Jolie?) to supply plenty of red carpet glamour at the New York premiere. The film hits theaters Sept. 21.

What: Reba McEntire‘s 31st album – and it’s packed with celebrity guests like Kelly Clarkson and Justin Timberlake
When: In stores Sept. 18
Highlights: Clarkson and McEntire duet on the soaring “Because of You” while Timberlake and the country legend share vocals on “The Only Promise That Remains.” Early listens suggest this is not “SexyBack” for the country set.
