WEEK AHEAD: Jamie Foxx Home for Holidays
Plus: Robert Blake trial begins, Ashlee Simpson's lip-synch redux, and more
Oscar contender and Golden Globe nominee Jamie Foxx is leading an all-star charity special on CBS Wednesday. PEOPLE has the scoop on A Home for the Holidays, plus other events to watch for in the coming week:
SATURDAY, DEC. 18: You laughin’ at him? Robert De Niro sure hopes so when he makes a rare TV appearance hosting Saturday Night Live for only the second time in his career. (The timing is right: His Meet the Fockers opens Dec. 22.) De Niro has often been fodder for mimicry on the show. Now he’ll get his chance to exact revenge. Destiny’s Child are the musical guests, performing songs from their new CD Destiny Fulfilled.
MONDAY, DEC. 20: The murder trial of Robert Blake is finally set to begin. The Baretta star has pleaded not guilty to charges that he killed his wife, Bonny Lee Bakley, on May 4, 2001, outside the Los Angeles-area restaurant Vitello’s. Prosecutors say Blake’s motive for murdering Bakley was to get custody of their daughter, Rose, who’s now 4 years old. The matter hinges on circumstantial evidence since no DNA evidence, fingerprints or eyewitnesses exist. On the way to a Dec. 6 hearing, Blake told reporters, “I’m okay, because I believe in the system. Ours is the best system in the best country.” The trial will recess on Dec. 22 for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
On a happier note: Want to relive Ashlee Simpson‘s Milli Vanilli moment? Or tear up again over a clip from the Friends finale? You can revisit the year’s TV highlights on TV Guide: Greatest Moments 2004, airing on ABC at XX p.m. Chiming in with their two cents are Joan and Melissa Rivers, who’ve abandoned their E! thrones to jump over to the TV Guide Channel. The mother-daughter team will dish on the years highlights and lowlights. The special will also feature the TV Guide Awards with categories including favorite newcomer (Desperate Housewives’ Eva Longoria will compete with Veronica Mars‘s Kristen Bell) and favorite reality star.
WEDNESDAY, DEC. 22: Jamie Foxx is a busy guy these days: He just scored three Golden Globe nominations, his critically acclaimed Ray is a serious Oscar contender, and now he’s teaming up with stars such as Bruce Willis and Jamie Lee Curtis for A Home for the Holidays, a CBS special (airing at 8 p.m.) to raise awareness for adoption and foster care – specificially the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption and the Children’s Action Network. Foxx will host and perform in the special, which also features Ashlee Simpson, Chaka Khan and others.
