In Maroon 5's new video, the band turns receptions into dance parties

Unexpected things happen at weddings: Wardrobe malfunctions. Surprise dance routines. Uninvited guests. Drunk uncles giving impromptu toasts.

But on Dec. 6, 2014, several couples had the surprise of a lifetime when Adam Levine and Maroon 5 crashed their weddings. The band drove around Los Angeles, showing up uninvited at receptions across the city. The footage was compiled into the video of the band’s newest single, “Sugar”.

So what happens when Levine shows up unannounced at a wedding? There’s a lot of screaming. The brides all seem to think their new husbands planned the whole thing. (Sorry, ladies. Not many men would invite 2013’s Sexiest Man Alive to upstage them on their wedding day.)

There’s cheering. There’s confetti. There are some happy tears. But most of all, there’s dancing.

Levine calls the experience “the coolest thing ever,” and says he made some memories of his own during the shoot.

“It was an out-of-body experience,” he says in a press release. “I had no idea I would be affected by the overwhelming reactions we received from the couples and guests. Being able to create an unforgettable experience for several people was the highlight of it all.”
