Goodbye, curly locks: For Survivor: Africa‘s Ethan Zohn, clippers and shears have finished off what chemotherapy started.

After learning he had cancer and anticipating that his hair would fall out during chemo treatments, Zohn, 35, went to his favorite salon on May 20 to get a much-shorter style, which he dubbed a “frohawk.”

But when even that short new do began falling out after his second round of chemo, Zohn decided to shave his head entirely – as seen in this exclusive video diary for PEOPLE.

Zohn easily pulls clumps of hair from his head, as well as his chest. His girlfriend, Survivor: The Amazon winner Jenna Morasca, 28, and his brother, Lee, remove the rest with scissors and clippers.

“My God,” Zohn says as he sees himself in the mirror for the first time after the shave. “I look weird!”

In April, Zohn was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease, and later learned that he suffered from a rare form the cancer called CD20-positive Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, for which he is in the middle of an intense three-month chemo regimen, expected to be followed by radiation.

Zohn, who has vowed to stay positive and to use his battle with cancer to help educate and inspire others, is scheduled to talk about his fight against the disease on CNN’s Larry King Live on Wednesday night.
