Before Sarah Palin was Alaska’s first female governor and Sen. John McCain’s presidential running mate, she was once a sports reporter for KTUU, Anchorage’s NBC affiliate.

In 1988, the future Republican vice presidential nominee, known as Sarah Heath before marrying oil company production operator Todd Palin, showed off her play-by-play skills by anchoring a sports report on the Iditarod, college basketball and baseball during the evening news.

Sporting big, fluffy brown hair, the Wasilla, Alaska, native, illustrated her strong, opinionated remarks by advising then-Los Angeles Dodgers baseball manager Tommy Lasorda to learn how to relax.

On Aug. 29, Sen. McCain announced Palin as his choice for vice president – the second woman ever to appear on a major-party presidential ticket.
