VIDEO: Paula Abdul's Bizarre TV Appearance
A rep for the Idol judge says the star's behavior was due to "technical problems"
While promoting the upcoming season of American Idol Paula Abdul made a bizarre appearance on a local Seattle station in which she swayed, bobbed and winked at the anchors.
Abdul’s spokesman, Jeff Ballard, tells PEOPLE the incident is “really much ado about nothing.”
Asked whether the Idol judge was drinking or under the influence of drugs during the appearance Ballard says: “Absolutely not.”
The interview was just one of at least 20 Abdul did that day, according to Ballard. “This is the only one that went bad due to technical difficulties. The sound dropped not once but twice. She was totally distracted by the whole thing.”
When asked by the show’s anchors what she’s looking forward to on the new season of Idol, Abdul responded: “How about a lot of you coming in. It’s a wild party where you are,” perhaps referring to the singers auditioning in Seattle, whom Simon Cowell said were some of the worst he’s heard.
“Well, I have to agree with Simon,” Abdul answered while moving from side to side and nodding up and down. “Hey, you know, it is what it is.”
During the rest of the interview she addressed Idol‘s impact on the music industry, William Hung and new season’s singers – including Seattle’s less-than-stellar ones.
“Any publicity is good publicity,” advised Abdul. “You’ve got to learn to eat it up and embrace it and say ‘Seattle has the best delusional people.’ ”
