It’s just a word, but it makes a big difference.

Valerie Bertinelli says one nice thing about finally getting married to longtime boyfriend Tom Vitale is simply that she can call him her husband.

“I think I got tired of calling him ‘my spousal equivalent,’ ” the Hot in Cleveland actress, 50, said Wednesday on The View. “It’s nice to call him my husband. It feels appropriate.”

This is Bertinelli’s second marriage, and during Wednesday’s show, the View co-hosts showed a photo of Vitale, Bertinelli and her first husband, Eddie Van Halen, smiling together for the camera.

The actress says being friends with Van Halen is helpful for their son, Wolfgang, 19.

“I just really truly believe that you must love your children more than you hate your ex,” she said. “And I think this shows Wolfie that just because mom and dad don’t live together any longer, that we can still get along.”
