It has been more than 20 years since Valerie Bertinelli walked on to the stage to present an Emmy award. But these days the former TV star is getting used to being back in the spotlight.

“I’m just getting more and more comfortable in this body,” said Bertinelli, a spokesperson for Jenny Craig, before heading to the Creative Arts Emmys on Saturday. “It’s still a journey. I’m not done yet.”

Part of that journey was writing the bestselling Losing It: And Gaining My Life Back One Pound at a Time. The actress proudly points out that in November it will be a year since she lost 40 lbs.

She showed off her new svelte 132-lb. figure on the red carpet at the Creative Arts Emmys in a dress by David Meister.

“He made this dress in a day for me. And he knows a woman’s body,” she said, while getting her makeup done with Maybelline products at her Studio City, Calif., home before the ceremony. “It’s okay to have a small waist and big hips.”

At the Emmys, she presented three awards – outstanding children’s program, outstanding animated program (one hour or more) and outstanding animated program (less than an hour).

Could another trip to the Emmy stage be in the future for the former One Day at a Time star? Well, thanks to her openness to discussing being a single mom and struggling with her weight she is currently developing a talk show scheduled to air next year.

Recalling the Emmy freebies two decades ago, she laughed, “You got a sweatshirt and a paper weight.”
