Usher has a confession to make about his controversial marriage – it’s fine.

“I’m very happy, and in a great place being a married man, but still obligated as an artist to service and have the relationship that I built through music with my fans,” the R&B star, 29, tells the Associated Press.

The singer is certainly no stranger to the rumor mill, forced to address everything from the reason behind the split with his longtime manager (and his own mother) Jonnetta Patton to possible marital woes with wife Tameka.

“If you respond to negativity, there is really no positive that you can get out of it. Unfortunately, no matter how real something is to you, of course people are going to always have an opinion,” he says of their union.

“Unfortunately, opinions matter for some reason. Bloggers have an opinion, and now people quote what they read from bloggers, but it’s not a testament of what the reality is,” he says.

He’s also not letting the naysayers get him down. In fact, Usher credits married life and son Usher Raymond V for boosting his confidence.

And with a wife, new baby, and new album (Here I Stand), Usher is tapping into these life experiences.

“You need to understand that there is growth, there is growth as an artist, there is growth as an individual. … We are growing up everyday,” he says.
