Adam Dowell, a 26-year-old sergeant in the U.S. Army, returned home after serving 10 months overseas and decided to surprise his 5-year-old son, Brayden, at a minor league baseball game last Friday.
The young boy was “randomly” chosen from the Tennessee Smokies crowd to participate in a “Dancing in the Dark” competition, where he was blindfolded and sent to the field to play.
“It was just excitement and joy. I was watching him dance on the field and I just wanted to grab him up before he took his blindfold off. I was just really excited to be back home with him,” Adam told Today.com.
When the game was over, Brayden took off his blindfold and was shocked to see his dad. He ran straight into his father’s arms for a long hug.
And Brayden will have even more to celebrate – after two deployments, Adam is now home for good.
