Tyler Oakley has spent his entire professional life in front of the camera, but that doesn’t mean the YouTube star wasn’t snervous about being the subject of a documentary.

“What’s snervous,” you ask?

“It’s when you’re scared and nervous at the same time,” Oakley tells PEOPLE. “It’s a word my friend Korey and I came up with in college and it definitely applies to this experience.”

Oakley stars in the upcoming Snervous, which not only documents his recent world tour but also the YouTuber’s private life – and PEOPLE has an exclusive first look clip from the film starring his mom, Jackie.

“I was scared to relinquish control of content because my whole professional life I’ve been in charge of my own edits. I’m snervous about what people will think of seeing behind the scenes,” says Oakley. “It’s a side of me that if I was in charge of editing, 80 percent of it wouldn’t have made the cut so this is definitely a side of me that people haven’t seen.”

Snervous will enjoy a limited theatrical release and be made available on all major digital platforms on Dec. 11.
