There was no sign of trauma, and the cause of death is still being investigated, reports the Associated Press. Woody played with the Allmans from 1989 until 1997. With slide guitarist Warren Haynes, another Allman vet, he formed the musical trio Gov’t Mule. In Los Angeles on Friday, rock composer Jack Nitzsche, 63, who worked with the Rolling Stones and Neil Young, died of cardiac arrest, his publicist told Reuters. He got his start in the music biz when a then-talent scout named Sonny Bono got him to co-write “Needles and Pins” for the Searchers. Nitzsche later won an Oscar for co-writing the theme song to “An Officer and a Gentleman.”
