Rescue teams are searching a mountainous area in northwest Nevada for two adults and four children who have been missing since Sunday.

James Glanton, 34, and his two children, along with his girlfriend, Christina MacIntee, 25, and her niece and nephew set out for Seven Troughs mountain range in a silver Jeep at about noon and the alarm was raised after they didn’t return that night.

Aircraft and teams on the ground are searching for the adults and children, who range in age from 3 to 10.

Authorities are particularly concerned because temperatures in the area dropped to 16 degrees below zero on Monday.

“I’m hoping they all huddled together and stayed in the Jeep. That would be a best-case scenario,” Nevada Highway Patrol trooper Chuck Allen told CBS Las Vegas, adding that cell phone reception in the area was patchy.

Amanda Fitzpatrick, mother of missing 10-year-old Shelby Fitzpatrick, joined searchers to look for her daughter, CNN reports.

“It’s been extremely hard, probably the hardest 24 to 36 hours of my life,” she told Piers Morgan. “It’s my baby girl.”
