"I can t remember the number of times I said, 'This is so freaky,' " says Niamh Geaney
Talk about twinning.
When 26-year-old Niamh Geaney set out to find her closest look-alike on social media, she was shocked to discover a young woman who was the spitting image of her living just an hour away.
Geaney joined forces with two male friends to find their doppelgängers within 28 days in a project called "Twin Strangers", and – based on these photos of Geaney with look-alike Karen Branigan, 29 – we think it’s safe to say that she won.
Branigan and Geaney, a TV presenter from Dublin, recently met up for a “freaky” encounter, where they dressed in matching outfits and took uncanny, twin-like photos together.
“I was ridiculously nervous about how I would react to meeting someone who looks like me. For the entire duration of our encounter I pretty much stared at her,” Geaney tells the U.K.’s Daily Mail. “I couldn’t get over her face, and some of the expressions she would pull, I would think to myself or say aloud, ‘Oh my God, that’s my face.'”
‘”I can’t remember the number of times I said, ‘This is so freaky.’ It was truly amazing,” she adds.
Geaney has two sisters and Branigan has five sisters and a brother, but they both agree that they look much more like each other than they do their respective siblings.
It’s no wonder the pair have become fast friends. They got along “very well” when they met, and have been chatting on Facebook “constantly” since finding each other, Geaney says.
“I would say Karen is the shyer of the two of us,” she adds. “But then you have to remember this was an even more surreal experience for her than it was for me.”
“I knew what search I was embarking on. I’m the weirdo that contacted Karen out of the blue and asked her to meet me in person.”
As for Geaney’s fellow Twin Strangers partners, 21-year-old Harry and 22-year-old Terence, the search continues for their doppelgängers.
May the best twin win.
