Trump Set to Announce Miss USA's Fate
The Donald has called a press conference to discuss Tara Conner
Donald Trump has called a press conference for 11 a.m. in New York on Tuesday to announce the fate of Miss USA Tara Conner, NBC News reports.
Trump’s announcement is expected to end speculation that the former Miss Kentucky Conner – a 5’5″ blonde who lives in New York City and made an appearance on the most recent season of Project Runway – will be replaced by runner-up Miss California Tamiko Nash.
“It is a painful subject, and I am not at all happy about the situation,” Trump told PEOPLE on Monday.
NBC and the Apprentice host co-own the Miss Universe organization, which includes Miss USA.
Last week it was announced that pageant organizers were evaluating “behavioral and personal issues” of the reigning queen and that a decision in the matter would be coming this week.
In the interim, reports of Conner’s alleged hard-partying ways have arisen in the press, and NBC News said that a celebration originally scheduled for Monday night to mark her 21st birthday had been canceled.
Lark-Marie Anton, spokeswoman for the Miss Universe Organization, told the Associated Press that Miss USA is considered a role model and must act accordingly. Behavior such as underage drinking is not acceptable, she said.
If she is replaced Conner would not only be stripped of her crown, but would also lose her job as a spokesperson for Mothers Against Drunk Driving, NBC News reported.
