Tracy Morgan Is Moved to a Rehab Facility, Has 'Long Way to Go' in Recovery
The comedian is "continuing to show signs of improvement," his rep says, as he recovers from critical injuries sustained in a car crash
The comedian, whose condition was upgraded to fair after being in a New Jersey hospital for nine days, has left the medical center, his rep tells PEOPLE.
“Tracy has been transferred to an undisclosed rehab center, where he is expected to remain for the next few weeks,” his rep says in a statement.
“While he is continuing to show signs of improvement, he still has a long way to go.”
Morgan, 45, and his fiancée, Megan Wollover, who thanked well-wishers for their support on social media, have nothing but praise for the staff who have been overseeing the actor’s recovery.
“He and Megan wanted to publicly express their deepest gratitude to everyone at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for the unbelievable care and attention they provided him,” his rep adds.
On Thursday, investigators released a preliminary report on the June 7 car crash, which left comedian James McNair dead. According to the investigation, Kevin Roper, the truck driver who slammed into the back of Morgan’s limo bus, was speeding prior to the accident.
In a statement released Friday, an attorney for Roper – who pleaded not guity – said: “We remain mindful of the victims and continue to express our deepest sympathies to the family of James McNair, and our heartfelt wishes for a full recovery of those who suffered injuries in the accident.”
“While this case continues to remain in the spotlight, we have no interest in commenting on rumor or speculation, exchanging a news conference for a jury, or sacrificing Mr. Roper’s presumption of innocence for a sound bite.”
