THEIR 'EXTRAORDINARY' DEBUT Corrado Giambalvo/AP Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes came out as a couple on April 29, 2005, in Rome, when Cruise boldly told the world that she was an "extraordinary woman" and smooched Holmes at the David di Donatello ceremony (the Italian equivalent of the Oscars). Later they enjoyed quieter moments, sharing codfish, artichokes and a little privacy during a dinner at the Piperno restaurant. 02 of 10 9. THEIR RIDE DOWN THE RED CARPET LDP Images Cruise and Katie's romance has been fueled by high-octane adventures – including one speedy ride down the red carpet at a June 2005 screening of War of the Worlds in Hollywood. But that was typical of the twosome's early dates: Cruise had also whisked Holmes away for a flight above L.A. in his private jet and took her for another motorcycle ride along the beach in Santa Monica. 03 of 10 8. HER BIRTHDAY ON ICE INF (2) Cruise pulled out all the stops, surprising Holmes on her 27th birthday (on Dec. 18) with an after-hours party at New York City's FAO Schwarz with cupcakes and toys galore. Later, the two hit the ice rink in Central Park for a private couples skate, where they were also joined by Cruise's mom, Mary Lee, and daughter Isabella. "You never know how life is going to bring people together," Shields told Access Hollywood. In fact, Shields said she and Holmes are "absolutely" friends. They even have a cosmic connection: Both gave birth in the same L.A. hospital on the same day, April 18. 05 of 10 6. She's the miracle of our life," she said.
