Tom Hiddleston has been a household name for Marvel fans ever since his scene-stealing performance as duplicitous God of Mischief Loki in the two Thor movies and 2010’s The Avengers. It was only days ago that the British actor, 35 – who was linked to Elizabeth Olsen last year – declared he was “still single, dude! Last of the Mohicans!” in an interview with Esquire. But now the star is making headlines for a possible new romance with superstar Taylor Swift after the two were photographed getting cozy in Rhode Island.

Here are five things you should know about the British heartthrob, who’s been racking up praise for his critically-acclaimed performance on The Night Manager.

1. He originally auditioned for Thor, not Loki

Although most comic book movie fans now know Hiddleston as Loki, God of Mischief, the actor originally auditioned for the title role, which went to Chris Hemsworth – and there’s video to prove it on the Thor: The Dark World Blu-Ray. “Every English-speaking actor over six foot was being seen for the part,” Hiddleston told The Guardian about his audition process. “I got down to the final few, which also included Chris’ younger brother Liam Hemsworth, Alexander Skarsg rd and Charlie Hunnam.”

2. He went to school with Prince William and Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne

Hiddleston, 35, attended England’s prestigious boarding school Eton College along with Prince William and Redmayne. “I see him sometimes at film premieres, which is nice,” Hiddleston told the Daily Mail of his relationship with William. “Eddie and I are very good friends still. We ve actually been fellow actors for 20 years now.”

3. He is a skilled impressionist

All it takes is a quick internet search to unearth the evidence, but Hiddleston is great at impressions. See: his spot-on impersonations of Chris Evans, Sean Connery, Owen Wilson – which actually helped him land his role in the Hank Williams biopic I Saw the Light – and Robert De Niro, which he recently performed in front of De Niro himself.

4. He is reportedly in the running to be James Bond

Thanks to his well-received performance in The Night Manager, Hiddleston’s name was thrown into the ring as a potential 007 – if current Bond actor Daniel Craig decides to retire from the role. Hiddleston recently tempered the rumors, telling the crowd at Philadelphia’s Wizard World Comic Con last week to not get their hopes up.

“I’m sorry to disappoint you, everybody. I don’t think that announcement is coming,” he said. “I am very gratified to hear the enthusiasm. There’s not much I can say that I haven’t already said – your guess is as good as mine, to be honest.”

5. He was photographed smooching Taylor Swift

Last but certainly not least, Hiddleston appears to be romancing music superstar Swift. The two presumably met at the Met Gala, where they made headlines when an Instagram video of a dance-off between the two surfaced. On Wednesday, the U.K.’s Sun newspaper released photographs of Hiddleston and Swift exchanging kisses and holding hands in Rhode Island.
