Tom Hanks‘ mother Janet Marylyn Frager has died, the actor and his wife Rita Wilson confirmed on social media on Tuesday. She was 84.

Sharing a vintage photo of Frager on his Instagram, Hanks – who turned 60 over the weekend – paid a sweet tribute to his late mother.

“This beauty? My mom. She was the difference in many lives. Many lives,” he wrote. “We say goodbye to her today. Safe crossing, mom!”

Similarly, Wilson wrote of Frager, “This wonderful lady gave birth to my husband, and three other children. Thank you for bringing my love into the world. She is at peace now.”

The actress shared a black-and-white image of Hanks with his mother.

Frager, who was a hospital worker, had three other children with her ex-husband Amos Hanks: Jim, Sandra and Larry. Amos died in 1992.
