As the tributes continue to mount for Tom Bosley, the beloved Happy Days actor who died at his California desert home on Tuesday, a representative for his family asks that a clarification be made over his case of death.

Bosley, 83, “died after a brief battle with lung cancer,” says the statement.

The actor, who won a Tony for the 1959 Pulitzer-Prize-winning Broadway musical Fiorello! and also starred as an crime-solving Irish priest (though Bosley was Jewish) on TV’s The Father Dowling Mysteries, is survived by his wife Patricia Bosley, brother Richard Bosley, daughter Amy Baer, stepdaughters Kimberly diBonaventura and Jamie Van Meter and seven grandchildren.
