If he’s trying to win fans in New York, unearthing hot shirtless photos is a good start.

Newly-minted New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow is showing off his blue eyes on the September cover of GQ magazine – while inside he’s showing off a whole lot more. (If you’re on a desktop computer, see multiple photos above – outtakes from a 2009 GQ photoshoot.)

“I think if they’re a Jets fan, hopefully they’ll be rooting for me,” says the ESPY winner, who joined the New Jersey-based team in March and is preparing for his first regular season with them.

“I’ll do whatever I can to help this team win football games. I’ll give my heart and soul whenever I step on that field and even when I’m on the sidelines,” Tebow, who turned 25 Aug. 14, tells the magazine. “And at the end of the day, that’s really all you can ask of someone.”

Well, and maybe to take off his shirt.

The birthday boy’s GQ cover hits newsstands Aug. 21, three days after his team takes on the New York Giants in a pre-season game on Aug. 18. The Jets’ first regular season game is Sept. 9, when they face the Buffalo Bills at MetLife Stadium.
