Tim Kaine Says Even with Pneumonia Hillary Clinton Is 'Chatty and Funny'
"Hillary's already released significantly more health information that Donald Trump has," Kaine told reporters
In fact, the Democratic vice presidential candidate told reporters in Dayton, Ohio on Monday that she’s kept her spirits high with a good sense of humor.
“She and I communicated pretty quickly yesterday, and I was struck by, immediately, how responsive she was to me, but also how chatty and funny she was,” Kaine, 58, said on the campaign trail. “She knew what I was doing yesterday was very full with debate prep and briefings, and she was kind of joking around with me about how unpleasant my day was going to be with that.”
A campaign official previously told PEOPLE that Clinton, 68, is taking two days off at home in Chappaqua, New York, but she was on the phone Monday morning making calls and would be phoning in her speech to a California fundraiser Monday evening.
“She was diagnosed on Friday, but then decided to move forward with the national security briefing and then obviously really wanted to be there as a senator from New York yesterday morning,” Kaine continued, noting how his running mate fell ill at a 9/11 memorial service in New York City on Sunday.
The father-of-three sympathized with what Clinton has been recovering from as he recalled being diagnosed with pneumonia himself.
“I ran my first city council race in 1994, and had pneumonia when I was running it, and I made the choice to power through, and I couldn’t do it at 100 percent but I wasn’t willing to do it at zero percent,” he said, adding, “None of you are surprised to know she’s got a super strong work ethic, and that’s what’s going on.”
Though Sunday’s incident reignited speculation about the Democratic presidential nominee’s health, Kaine revealed Clinton plans to be fully transparent about her health records.
“She’s committed that shortly she’ll release more health information; I think the good thing is that Hillary’s already released significantly more health information that Donald Trump has,” he shared.

“I hope there will be an even standard applied to getting them both to release sufficient information, not just on health, but obviously we have the ongoing issue on taxes too,” Kaine concluded.
He also reassured voters at Dayton’s Stivers High School that Clinton’s stamina during the election is POTUS-worthy. “I’ll tell you this: I’ve just been on the campaign since July 22. Hillary Clinton has been on the campaign trail for 18 months,” he said as the crowd roared with cheers and applause.
“Her energy staggers me. I have a hard time keeping up with her. And we know she’s going to be fantastic. She’ll be a fantastic president.”
