Though sources have told PEOPLE that he’s an emotional mess amid domestic violence allegations made by his estranged wife Amber Heard, Johnny Depp ended his European music tour with a bang.

The actor/musician and the Hollywood Vampires performed at Romexpo Parc in Bucharest, Romania on Monday for the band’s final concert abroad as they are set to finish the rest of their summer tour dates stateside.

“Johnny was so in his element,” a source tells PEOPLE. “His backing vocals were good. And he was interacting with the audience a lot. He seemed to be having a great time.”

Depp, 52, expressed his thanks to his fans not just with his music, but with some accessories as well, according to blogger Ionut Bunescu. “Johnny thanked [fans] in Romanian, which the crowd really enjoyed. The crowd was screaming with joy. There was lots of clapping and cheering,” Bunesco shares with PEOPLE. “He also thanked [fans] a lot in English and said that he loves us. He seemed really happy all the time, he smiled a lot, and threw guitar picks and his scarves into the crowd.”

The Hollywood Vampires crew also surprised the Alice Through the Looking Glass star with a cake to celebrate his June 9 birthday.

Not only were Alice Cooper and Joe Perry on stage with Depp but Tim Burton was also spotted hanging out on the side.

“Tim Burton was at the side of stage and clearly loving it. He was so into the music, rocking his head while hanging on a rig,” a source shares with PEOPLE adding that the Golden Globe-winning director had previously filmed footage of the band at Bran Castle. The footage is slated to air during the band’s U.S. concerts from July 1 to 17.

Following the gig, Depp and the band were seen partying on the top floor of his hotel, which was heavily secured by body guards.

While Depp has been traveling, Heard has “consulted” with renowned feminist lawyer Gloria Allred’s California firm Allred Maroko Goldberg. The actress “had a four-hour meeting with the firm in Los Angeles on Friday,” according to a source.

In this week’s issue of PEOPLE, new photos show Heard with physical injuries allegedly resulting from a violent encounter with the actor.

A rep for Depp has not responded to PEOPLE’s requests for comment about the photos. However, In court documents, Depp’s attorney Laura Wasser alleged that Heard “is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse.”
