An autopsy is scheduled for Monday for Thomas Kinkade, the famed painter who died unexpectedly last Friday at age 54.

The Santa Clara County coroner will conduct the autopsy, according to the Los Angeles Times.

The self-described “painter of light” died at his home in Monte Sereno, Calif. His family has said his death was from natural causes.

Kinkade had battled alcohol abuse in the past, the Times reports, and had been separated from his wife Nanette for more than a year.

“Thom provided a wonderful life for his family,” Nanette said in a statement. “We are shocked and saddened by his death.”
